Goddess Lakshmi (also spelled Laxmi) is one of the most widely revered and worshipped deities in the Hindu pantheon. She is the consort of Lord Vishnu, the preserver in the Hindu trinity (Trimurti), and is the goddess of wealth, fortune, prosperity, beauty, and abundance — both material and spiritual.
Lakshmi is usually depicted as a beautiful woman with a radiant golden complexion, seated or standing on a fully bloomed lotus flower, symbolizing purity and divine consciousness.
Two of her hands often hold or shower gold coins, representing material wealth and prosperity.
The other hands typically hold lotus flowers, and sometimes she is shown in the Abhaya mudra (gesture of fearlessness and protection).
She is often flanked by two elephants, sometimes shown pouring water, symbolizing royal power and fertility.
She is most prominently worshipped during the festival of Diwali, especially on Lakshmi Puja, where devotees light lamps and pray for wealth and auspicious beginnings.
