Lord Murugan, also known as Kartikeya, Skanda, Subramanya, or Shanmukha, is a widely revered Hindu deity, especially prominent in South India, Sri Lanka, and among the Tamil diaspora. He is the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, and the brother of Lord Ganesha.
His divine spear, the Vel, represents wisdom, the power to overcome evil, and the blessings of his mother Parvati.
Major temples include Palani Murugan Temple, Thiruchendur, Swamimalai, Thiruthani, Pazhamudircholai, and Kartikeya Temple in North India.
